Karen L. - Director
Karen graduated with a BA/Special Education Teaching Certificate in New Jersey, specializing in the education of pre-school and elementary school aged children with Cerebral Palsy. During this time, she became interested in child development, behavioral techniques, PT/OT, and the burgeoning field of proprioception. While raising her children and being involved with their schools, she began to work with adults with special needs in residential settings. Working to encourage and improve ADL skills such as cooking, home maintenance, and budgeting, she also saw how important therapeutic recreation was and how it prolongs health and wellbeing. For the past 21 years, she has worked at The Kennedy Center, Inc. based in Trumbull, CT. She has also worked as a personal money manager, an assistant group home manager, and a school to work transition specialist, helping high school students train for and obtain jobs, practice ADLs, and fostering community inclusion. For the past nine years, before joining the staff at ASD Fitness Center, she worked in the Therapeutic Recreation department at KC. One of the focuses there was improving quality of life through diverse types of exercise. Additional trainings include: CPR/First Aid, Crisis Prevention Instruction 1 & 2, DDS Autism Training 1 & 2, DDS Medication Admin.

Christina K. – Executive Director
After attending Bay Path College, Christina went on to pursue a career in business management. She brings more than 25 years of significant leadership experience at multi-million dollar businesses. Christina has been recognized on numerous occasions for her ability to motivate her team and her understanding of the value of nurturing close client relations. Her achievements gained her roles on multiple executive boards charged with improving business service and results. Christina’s dedication extends beyond her workplace, as she was chosen in 2006 to be a member of the Family / Faculty Board at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH) which was responsible for driving and implementing positive changes at YNHCH. In this role, Christina also participated in delivering hospital wide training for all staff, leading to improvements in the overall family and faculty communication at YNHCH. Her own personal experience contributed to her passion to give back to terminally ill children and their families. Through Christina’s fundraising efforts she was successful in opening “The Family Resource Center”,@ YNHCH which provides services and resources to families with sick children. Christina is married and has four daughters ranging in age from thirteen to seventeen. Her love for her family inspires her commitment to positively impact the lives of families in need.

Christine C.Front Desk
Christine, is a graduate student in the Recreational Therapy program at Southern Connecticut State University with an expected graduation date of May 2018. She holds an undergraduate degree in business management and has extensive experience in medical management as well as clinical healthcare. She is adult and adolescent brain health first aid certified. A former Air Force Veteran and EMT, Christine has a special interest in fitness, volunteering, community outreach, nature and creative pursuits.

Miriam M. – Front Desk
Miriam has an Associate’s degree in Administration and is our part-time front desk staff and class instructor. She has been a part of the ASD Fitness Center team for over a year. Her past experiences include admirative assistant in medical, engineering, and law firm settings. She is also trained in CPR-AED, First-aid. She brings with her a passion for children, music, art, and is an integral part of the ASD Fitness Center staff.
